As a Houston homeowner, you might already know that the kitchen is arguably the most important room in a home. The quality and condition of a home’s kitchen can boost or diminish its resale value! But kitchen renovations can be pricey, and even the best-planned remodels generally return just eighty cents on the dollar.

If you are planning to sell your Houston home in the near future, staging your kitchen to maximize its appeal is a cost-effective strategy. Here are some tips from HouseLogic, along with our own suggestions!

Clear everything from countertops except one or two decorative items, like a vase of flowers or bowl of fresh fruit. A coffee pot can be left on display if you wish, but other small appliances should be put away.

Pack up all the dishes except one attractive, matching set. Do the same with glassware, flatware, and cookware, and pare down all other cupboard and drawer items to a minimum.

Update cabinets with a fresh coat of paint and new hardware.

Evaluate your appliances. If they are in good working order and only a few years old, a good cleaning may suffice. Appliances that appear aged or worn will detract from your kitchen’s appeal. An investment in new appliances can often revive a dated kitchen without the expense of a full remodel.

Remove fridge magnets and any clutter. Clean the fridge inside and out.

Scrub dirt, grime, and stains from walls, cabinets, and backsplashes.

Clean cabinet interiors, especially under the sink.

Clean and organize the pantry, leaving some empty space to make it look bigger. Store items in decorative baskets. Display a few jars of fancy jam and other upscale condiments.

Empty all trash cans and move them out of sight.

Clean dust from light fixtures and wash kitchen windows. Allow natural light inside the kitchen as much as possible!

The above suggestions will help you get started! For best results, ask a KW Energy Corridor agent for a market value consultation before you spend money on upgrades. Every home is unique, and we can help you identify and leverage your home’s strengths!
